Elizabeth Banks Lands Villainous Role in Power Rangers Film

The upcoming Power Rangers just landed its first big name.

The Rangers they’ve cast so far are all virtual unknowns, but they’ll be going up against a Hollywood hotshot.

Actress Elizabeth Banks has officially been cast as big bad Rita Repulsa.

The character is an evil alien witch with a humanoid appearance who’s bent on galactic domination. It’s up to the Power Rangers to stop her and her evil henchmen.

She was portrayed by Japanese actress Machiko Soga in the original series which the American show then used footage from and dubbed her voice over using American actress Barbara Goodson.

Repulsa is one of the most well-known Power Rangers villains, along with Lord Zedd, so it’s exciting for fans that she’ll have a big part in the film.

Banks is known for her roles in films like The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect, and The LEGO Movie.

Power Rangers, directed by Dean Israelite, is set to debut on January 13, 2017.
