Iconic Musician Prince Has Died at 57

Music legend Prince has died at 57, his publicist told AP.

The sheriff’s office arrived at Prince’s studio Paisley Park in Chanhassen, Minnesota this morning at 9:43 am, responding to a medical emergency call. Prince had been in the hospital last week with the flu, but was released recently.

Widely regarded as the pioneer of the Minneapolis sound, Prince was a popular singer, songwriter, and actor for over three decades. He was known for his eclectic and energetic stage presence, and incredible vocal range.

He released his first album, For You, in 1978. His next album, the self-titled Prince, was released in 1979 and went platinum.

One of his most successful albums, Purple Rain (1984), was also the soundtrack for the film of the same name.

Prince was a recipient of seven Grammy Awards, and a Golden Globe and Oscar. He sold over 100 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

His original artistry and presence in the industry will be missed. He was truly one of the greatest musicians of our time, and our thoughts are with his family, friends, and everyone who was touched by his music.
