Alicia Vikander Lands Coveted Role of Lara Croft in New Tomb Raider Film

Despite Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Daisy Ridley being in talks to star as Lara Croft in the upcoming Tomb Raider film, the role has ultimately gone to another person.

Instead, Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl, Ex Machina) has landed the coveted role at the Warner Bros, MGM, and GK Films production.

The film, directed by Roar Uthaug, will follow lead character Croft, who hails from the popular video games series, as she journeys on her first adventure.

Vikander is an indisputable talented actress, although this type of film will be a new challenge for her. She starred in The Man from UNCLE last year, which saw her getting in on the action, and she’ll be in this year’s Jason Bourne, but headlining her own franchise, one that is deeply steeped in action and adventure, will certainly be different.

Tomb Raider is set to arrive next year, but has no release date yet.
