This is the first-ever Fan’s Choice combiner team; a group of six Autobots that join together to form the massive ultra-bot, Victorion. The best part? These six new characters are female, making this a real milestone in the Transformers universe!
Before going on too far, let’s get something out of the way: there’s no need to quibble too much about what gender means in the world of robotics. Whether or not robots need to have gender for biological purposes, we can all agree that science fiction need not abandon conventions of character development that are centuries old. There is certainly no need to bow to the Smurfette Principle and accept that all “normal” characters are male: with the creation of a female Autobot team, both boys and girls can have substantive female role models, too.
Going beyond that, these are some seriously cool robots, by every standard. Transformers is returning to its roots in many ways with the Combiner Wars series, recalling the legacy of Devastator and many other teams that combined to become greater forces.
Pyra Magna, a fire truck in auto form, leads the team called the Rust Renegades. Stormclash and Skyburst are twin helicopters; Dustup transforms into a race car; Jumpstream is some manner of “supercar”; and Rust Dust, the smallest member of the team, transforms into a motorcycle. Each member of the team has their own unique weapon, ranging from blades to shields to firearms, and those weapons combine to form a giant blade for Victorion!
