Marvel Unveils a New Iron Man and She Is in for a Big Change

It’s not every day that a 15-year-old science prodigy from MIT builds an Iron Man suit in their dorm room and successfully catches the attention of the Tony Stark. The new Iron Ma— err, well, the title isn’t important right now… is in for a big change.

That’s right – this student will be headlining a new “Invincible Iron Man” series that will be spun out of Marvel’s “Civil War II” event. And in line with Marvel’s fresh new take on traditional superheroes (Thor became a woman, a black man took over as Captain America, and the current Ms. Marvel is a Muslim teenager from Jersey City), this new Iron Man is a black woman named Riri Williams.

The “Invincible Iron Man” series, for which Riri Williams will replace Tony Stark in the Iron suit, will be written by Brian Michael Bendis, and Stefano Caselli will draw the art.

According to Time, Riri Williams is a “more-than-capable substitute for Tony Stark.” Bendis told Time, “Her brain is maybe a little better than his. She looks at things from a different perspective that makes the armor unique.”

The new “Invincible Iron Man” series will kick off this fall. What do you think of the new Iron Man? Sound off in the comments below!
