Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the first of Disney and Lucasfilm’s new stand-alone live-action films set outside the episodic movie structure following the Skywalker family. Rogue One begins at the start of the original Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.

“It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire,” the opening crawl read. “During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.”

 

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is directed by Gareth Edwards, and stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, and Diego Luna. It hits theaters December 16, 2016.
