A Star Wars Show Could Be Coming to a Television near You

Back in 2012, the Walt Disney Company announced that it was purchasing Lucasfilm Ltd. and the internet exploded. What would Disney dare to do with such beloved properties as Indiana Jones and Star Wars? Could they be trusted as the caretakers of these bastions of successful franchises? The short answer, as Star Wars: The Force Awakens proved last year, is a resounding yes.

With one film release, the TV show Star Wars Rebels, theme park expansions, and several more movies on the horizon, Disney is not just safeguarding these franchises, but taking them to the next level. Now, it seems, they’re looking to do even more.

President of ABC Entertainment (a Disney subsidiary) Channing Dungey recently told EW, “[W]e have had conversations with [Lucasfilm] and will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming.”

Although Dungey went on to say that due the secretive nature of Lucasfilm, “it’s all a little bit hush-hush,” he certainly revealed quite a bit in his statement. In fact, Dungey disclosed that the studios were in ongoing talks to bring Star Wars to the small screen, giving hope to fans everywhere.

Given ABC’s record for expanding franchises with shows like Agent Carter and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,  the future of this partnership looks more than promising. At the very least, we can rest assured it won’t be another Star Wars: Holiday Special.

How do you feel about an ABC and Star Wars team up? What would you love to see should Star Wars come to the small screen? Tell us in the comments!
