Marvel’s Runaways Coming to HULU

Growing-up with overbearing parents is something many people have to deal with. But dealing with overbearing super-villain parents that belong to a super-evil cabal – that’s something unique to The Runaways.

Hulu has reportedly put in an order to Marvel TV – who continues to spread to all facets of media like the tentacles of Hydra – for the beloved series The Runaways from Brian K. Vaughn and Adrian Alphona.

According to Deadline Hollywood and multiple sources the two are working together with showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the creators of Gossip Girl the television series and The O.C., to tell the tale of six very different and very awkward teenagers who discover their parents are not the super heroes they suspect to them be, but are a part of an evil group called “The Pride”. They deal with this dose of moral quandary with the amount of teen angst you’d expect and become their own super-group, The Runaways.

According to the report on Deadline, Savage and Schwartz have been working with Marvel TV for a year on the project as a part of an overall deal the two have with ABC. Savage and Schwartz’s track record of teen’s dealing with maturity in the worst of ways is a good sign for the series and will keep the quality of Marvel’s programming on par.

Not much else has been announced other than The Runaways is happening, it’ll be exclusive to Hulu and it will be a part of the extended Marvel TV universe. As to whether it’ll be included in things like Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the word is mum. There hasn’t been much crossover in the Television universe, but the partnership of Hulu and ABC allows for speculation of some crossover if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is still on.

The Runaways started in 2003 and was received with much critical acclaim but didn’t match sales expectations and was dropped. Fan fervor brought it back quickly in 2004 on Marvel proper and the series is still running today.
