Deathstroke Joins the DC Extended Universe

The past few weeks have been rife with DC news, from the Justice League footage unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con to the chatter about Superman’s new costume design.

Now Batman himself, Ben Affleck, has revealed that one of the best known villaibest-knownDC Rogue’s Gallery will soon be making an appearance: Deathstroke.

The timing of the released test footage suggests the masked mercenary will be appearing in Justice League – even if only for a cameo – since that film is nearing the end of its primary shooting. There is also rumors of Deathstroke being the main villain in the Batman standalone film, but Affleck maintains that production hasn’t begun on his picture, as he’s “not happy enough with” the script just yet.

Deathstroke (aka Slade Wilson) has long been a fan favorite, created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, he first appeared in “The New Teen Titans” #2 all the way back in 1980. The mercenary/assassin was last seen giving Oliver Queen (aka Green Arrow) trouble during season three of the CW’s Arrow, where he was played by Manu Bennett.

No word yet on who will be playing the sword-swinging Slade Wilson, though it’s unlikely Bennett will be reprising his role, given the DC Extended Universe’s track record with recasting roles in the transition from TV to film – just as they did with Ezra Miller taking on the mantle of The Flash while Grant Gustin continues to play the character on the CW.Based on casting rumors, it seems, that Joe Manganiello will be taking up the role as Slade Wilson.
