Shin Godzilla Will Be Coming to American Theaters for a Limited Time

Shin Godzilla, also known as Godzilla: Resurgence, debuted in Japan this past summer. Soon, stateside fans of the legendary Kaiju will be able to experience this film on the big screen during a special engagement.

This film looks like it will be a smash hit with long time fans of the radioactive lizard. It’s co-directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. Anno, who is also the screenwriter, is most known for creating the anime Evangelion. Higuchi, who helmed the popular Attack on Titan, is also responsible for the special effects in the movie. The film stars Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi, Satomi Ishihara, Rando Yaguchi, and Ren Osugi. The Godzilla design was created by Mahiro Maeda (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Animatrix) and Takayuki Takeya (Kamen Rider Drive, Attack on Titan).

Funimation will be screening the film in American theaters from October 11-18. Funimation Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Mike DuBoise had this to say about the film:

“Shin Godzilla represents a brand new chapter in the 62-year history of this iconic science fiction monster. We’re excited to bring audiences this new vision of Godzilla from Toho as reimagined by directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi.”

It turns out that Shin Godzilla is a reboot, which will feature the monster appearing in Japan for the first time. As we can imagine, chaos will be sure to follow! Check out the trailer below to see the mayhem for yourself.
