Disney and Lucasfilm announced today that rapper/actor Donald Glover has been cast as a young Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars spinoff Han Solo film.
Glover, who is known for his role as Troy on Community and his rapping alter ego Childish Gambino, will take on the role made famous by Billy Dee Williams.
It was long rumored that both Chewbacca and Lando would appear alongside a young Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) and after months of speculation and casting rumors we finally get confirmation that, at least, Lando will appear in the film.
StarWars.com has stated that the “new film depicts Lando in his formative years as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld – years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi.”
The still-untitled Han Solo movie is set for release in 2018.
