Marvel’s Squirrel Girl is the fan favorite that no one expected. We’ve had some strange heroes in the run of both the big and independent comic houses, but who ever could have anticipated Doreen Green kicking her way into fans hearts?
Though she may seem strange, her ability to talk to squirrels is surprisingly handy in the undermining of super villains. Squirrels dominate both metro and rural areas, and you never know when one’s listening! Have fun with that notion next time you’re walking down the street!
Doreen comes from Steve Ditko and Will Murray, and originated in the 90’s, though she only just recently rose up to cult popularity. Murray wanted a heroin that was lighthearted and fun to add some balance to the typical doom and gloom storylines we see with a lot of our favorite protagonists. The character’s so lovable she was even a nanny once!
Your first reaction may to be to laugh at a character whose powers seem so silly at first glance, but Squirrel Girl’s introduction into the world is actually her saving Iron Man’s butt from Doctor Doom. Tony may have ultimately told her that she was too young to be any side kick of his, but he still promises to put in a good word for her with the avengers. It’s all probably best for Doreen, Tony doesn’t play well with others, even the ones he likes.
You can now take home your very own Squirrel Girl figure with this stunning Kotobukiya Bishoujo statue. Rendered by artist Shunya Yamashita, this gorgeous statue will make a great addition to any Marvel collection!
