Hip-Hop and You Don’t Stop: Funko Urban Vinyl Figures

Funko is well known for its vinyl figure recreations of characters from popular movies, TV shows, comic books, and even sports thanks to licenses with Disney, Marvel, DC Comics, Peanuts, Nickelodeon, NFL, Cartoon Network, and many others.

But how many of you remember Funko’s line of Urban Vinyl figures?

First talked about in 2011 and, eventually, released in 2012, these figures were recreations of the top musicians in hip hop. The line featured Tupac, Run DMC, Notorious B.I.G., Flava Flav, and Chuck D. Shown in mid-performance, with a microphone in hand, each figure came in a full-color window box. Except for Run DMC, each figure featured two articulations and stood 6-inches tall.

In addition to the Urban Vinyl line, Funko also created figures of Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac for its famous Pop! vinyl line. The two rappers were known almost as much for their rivalry as they were for their music. These two figures made for a natural pairing, with Notorious B.I.G dressed in his rakish white suit and Tupac displaying his “Thug Life” tattoo. Each with the oversized head typical of the Pop! Vinyl line, these two figures each stood 3 3/4-inches tall, featured rotating heads, and were available in window boxes good for display.
