ICYMI: All The Trailers That Dropped at San Diego Comic-Con 2017

There’s a small chance you may have been under a rock, or without access to the internet or your phone for the past few days and if that’s the case, you missed a lot of new trailers from San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel and DC dazzled us with a few movie trailers, but Netflix and The CW wowed us with some footage as well. Let’s dive into the highlights of the weekend!

Thor: Ragnarok

I’m starting with Thor: Ragnarok because I feel like it stole the show this weekend. Not only was it fun, it was gorgeous. This may be the first Thor film that actually has people excited and willing to see it more than once in the theaters. For those critical of Marvel being “too fun,” it also has a sense of foreboding darkness and dread with the spectacular performance of Cate Blanchett as Hela.

Justice League

With the success of Wonder Woman, DC Comics die hards are hopeful that the studio can turn things around for their beloved characters. Their next venture into the DCEU is the team up in Justice League. This brand new trailer offers a better look at what’s to come this fall for our favorite heroes.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

The first film surprised everyone and was a huge success with comic book and action movie fans alike. The second film looks to expand on the thrills and the drama. Taron Egerton and Colin Firth are back and are joined this time by Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges, and Pedro Pascal.

Ready Player One

You’ll need to go frame by frame in this trailer to find all of the Easter Eggs left by Steven Spielberg and Ernest Cline (author of the book). Set to blow fans of ’80s nostalgic minds, Ready Player One is loaded with pop culture references. However, that’s not the only draw. The story is gripping and addictive and you’ll find yourself rooting for Tye Sheridan’s Wade Watts.

Bright

This WIll Smith/Netflix film sees humans and orcs living together. It’s a world filled with prejudice and racism and Smith finds himself partnered with someone he can’t find a way to trust solely based on their appearance and cultural origin. Sound like a familiar world? It’s the best of real world drama mixing with fantasy. Can’t go wrong… can it?

The LEGO Ninjago Movie

With the success of The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie, it makes sense that the franchise expands and continues. Already a popular television series and LEGO line of toys, Ninjago promises to be extremely fun and boasts a huge cast of stars including Dave Franco, Justin Theroux, Michael Peña, Kumail Nanjiani, Fred Armisen, Olivia Munn, and Jackie Chan.

Pacific Rim: Uprising

The sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s Monster vs. Jaeger adventure sees the son of Idris Elba’s character played by John Boyega taking his turn at the wheel of a giant robot monster killer. He’ll be joined by Scott Eastwood and Charlie Day, who returns!

Stranger Things

The first season of this highly addictive sci-fi thriller combined everything we loved from many ’80s films. The second season looks to add to that and make it even more incredible. Bigger monsters, higher stakes, and Halloween references galore. Who can possibly wait until October for this?

Marvel’s The Defenders

Finally, it’s time for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist to team up and fight Sigourney Weaver’s villainous character. This series promises to be dark, violent, and snarky. We can’t wait to see it and hopefully we like Danny Rand more this time around.

Marvel’s Inhumans

The story of Marvel’s Royal Family will feel like Game of Thrones meets X-Men. A super powered race is thrust into a world where they’re feared and hated due to being different. And there’s a battle for the mantle of King of the Inhumans. If that’s not intriguing enough there’s a woman who can fight with her hair and a giant dog named Lockjaw who can teleport people. Can we mention Lockjaw again? Because he’s the best part of the trailer.

The Gifted

FOX Television is getting in on the mutant game with this X-Men series featuring some beloved side characters from the comics. We’ll see a family seeking help from Blink, Polaris, and Thunderbird while the X-Men are nowhere to be found. With Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker playing the parents of two mutants on the run from the government.

Westworld

The first season blew us away with the possibilities of a theme park where you’re immersed in the action. The new season will expand on that as the attractions are now fighting back. How can you not love Evan Rachel Wood firing a shotgun on horseback? It’s a wonderful sight.

The Walking Dead

It’s building. There’s a war coming and many of our favorite survivors are sure to bite the bullet before its all over. Negan vs. Rick is sure to be something to behold and it will all start in this new season.

Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling

That’s right. The ’90s animated Nickelodeon series is back! And this time our favorite wallaby has to deal with all the modern pitfalls we face on a daily basis.

Star Trek: Discovery

This series will serve as a prequel to the original series and detail a war between the Federation and the Klingons. New crew, new cast, and brand new adventures, it promises to take us to bold new places.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what was shown at SDCC. All The CW shows had new trailers including Supergirl, The FlashArrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supernatural, and Riverdale. HBO released a new Game of Thrones trailer for the season already underway as well. With all of this new content coming in the next 12 months, it’ll be a wonder how anyone finds time to leave their homes.
