Toy of the Week Podcast: Transformers Power of the Primes Rodimus Unicronus

If you ever wanted to know what Rodimus would look like with a soul patch and mutton chops, here’s your answer.

Transformers Power of the Primes Rodimus Unicronus, AKA the Transformers version of Marc Maron, takes center spotlight in this week’s podcast. Formerly known as Rodimus Cron from the Titans Return cartoon (if you haven’t watched it, don’t — Adam’s warning you), this figure is essentially a Decepticon redeco of Power of the Primes Rodimus Prime, only this guy’s evil.

Black plastic with black paint accents help make this toy really pop. Plus, the new red eyes, a sleek gray spoiler, and translucent red windows help offset the darker color scheme. There’s also some seriously impressive articulation going on for a figure this size, including an ankle rocker, movable shoulders, elbows, and the coveted bicep swivel.

As with Power of the Primes Rodimus, this toy is actually two in one: you get Nemesis Hot Rod as well as Rodimus Unicronus, which also means you get Hot Rod’s futuristic sports car as well as the ubiquitous space Winnebago.

Rodimus Unicronus was originally teased to look like part of the Shattered Glass line, yet the finished product shows a new Decepticon logo instead of an Autobot one. Additionally, the Nemesis Hot Rod figure included in this set doesn’t sport the same facial hair as his Shattered Glass counterpart. Does that mean he’s not actually part of the Shattered Glass line? You tell us!
