Celebrity Collector: Rocker Rick Springfield Owns Rare Star Wars Toys?

“I wish that I had Jessie’s girl.” More like, I wish I had Rick Springfield’s Star Wars toys.

When you think of 80s heartthrob Rick Springfield, you might think of his classic hit “Jessie’s Girl” or his role as Dr. Noah Drake on General Hospital, but did you know that he has a collection of rare Star Wars action figures?

Back in 2015, Springfield let his well kept secret slip to Rolling Stone. In the exclusive interview, Springfield showed off his rare and extremely valuable Star Wars collection, which has an estimated net worth of over $500,000.

Springfield explained that he is an avid toy collector, “I’ve always been a toy freak. I have toys everywhere.” Most of Rick Springfield’s Star Wars toys he’s been collecting since he was young. “I liked them, I loved the packaging. So I bought them all and kept them in the packages and stuck them in my closet. And it became what made them valuable.” He keeps his action figures mint-on-card because he believes that while the figures are badly made, the artwork is still cool.

Not only does Springfield claim he has every Boba Fett action figure and some double-telescoping Lukes, but he also has the super rare Turkish Bootleg Uzay called “Blue Stars.” But Springfield’s favorite toy in this collection is the Bootleg “Head Man.” Springfield loves the figure because it’s so “lunatic,” being a “space guy” with a medieval sword and shield.

Whatever you do, don’t call Rick Springfield a Star Wars geek boy. According to a recent interview with USA Today, Springfield said, “It’s not something I want to be known for. It was just a love of toys – I love toys. So I happened to buy the right toys, but I am selling them.” He wants to make it clear that he collects other things, namely other toys and replicas, and classic cars. He does have a pretty killer 1963 split-window Corvette!

But he does believe his collection is a great investment. “And if all my investments did as well as my Star Wars toys, it would be pretty freaking awesome.”
