Latest Casting for Captain America: Civil War Is Simply Elementary

The Hobbit and Sherlock fans are sure to be pleased by this news from Marvel. The studio announced today that the star of both franchises, Martin Freeman, has joined the cast of Captain America: Civil War!

President of Marvel and producer for the film, Kevin Feige, commented:

“From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in ‘The Office,’ Martin’s range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us. We couldn’t be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

There’s no knowing who he’ll be playing in the already packed film, but we think it’d be interesting if he played a civilian or non-superpowered SHIELD agent.

Freeman is a talented actor who has won both a BAFTA and Primetime Emmy Award for his role as Watson in Sherlock. He’ll certainly add another element to the film.

According to star Chris Evans (Captain America), shooting begins in the next few weeks, so hopefully we’ll get more news about Freeman’s role soon.

Captain America: Civil War, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and starring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey. Jr, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Daniel Brühl, and Chadwick Boseman, is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.

Tell us: Do you like the casting of Martin Freeman? Who do you think he’ll play?
