Which Star Wars: The Force Awakens Character Is Confirmed for Episode VIII?

It’s a fair assumption that the new Star Wars trio (Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac) will survive The Force Awakens, but anyone else is up in the air – except for one more now.

Today, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy let slip in The L.A. Times one other new character that will appear in the next film: Captain Phasma.

Kennedy has big plans for Phasma and confirmed that the captain will carry on into the next movie. “She’s an important character, a baddie in the best sense of the word.”

That’s good news for people who already love Gwendoline Christie’s First Order baddie. She’s one of the most talked about characters, and for good reason – just look at how cool she is!

She’s not only popular with fans, though. Slashfilm pulled a quote from director J.J. Abrams about his favorite performance in the film:

“I can only say that Gwendoline Christie is my favorite. She just killed it. You think, “Well, what? It’s wearing a costume.” But it’s a lot to wear and to have a performance when you’re wearing that requires a different kind of skill set and an additional talent, and she’s got it. It’s an incredible thing to work with her. I am glad that a character has been designed that is visually as stunning as that is, because she deserves it and the fans do too. When I first saw that design my mind was blown because it looked so undeniable.”

So if you like the dark side and badass troopers, look forward to more of one of the most epic of them all!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, and Max von Sydow is set to come out on December 18, 2015.
