Our Favorite Couple on a Magic Carpet
Whether you became familiar with the story of Aladdin from the 1992 Disney animated film of that name, the 2019 live-action movie, or the age-old Middle Eastern folktale Aladdin and the Magic Lamp from One Thousand and One Nights (often referred to in the English-speaking world as the Arabian Nights), you know it’s an enthralling tale that’s stood the test of time. Generations have thrilled to poor street kid Aladdin who discovers a magic lamp and unleashes its genie who then helps him deceive his way into the Sultan’s castle in an effort to win the heart of beautiful Princess Jasmine. And of course, there’s evil villain Jafar (you have to have a villain, you know) who covets the lamp for his own nefarious purposes. But the Aladdin franchise has burgeoned far beyond the above to include a television series and specials, direct-to-video movies, video games, musicals, theme park attractions, and more.
