The Aliens Return Alongside Jeff Goldblum and Liam Hemsworth in 2016

What decade is it? Over the next two years, iconic moments in cinema history are returning. This year has Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. 2016 will see the untitled Power Rangers film and Independence Day 2 – and that’s without counting all the superhero films coming out.

Sure, we heard Independence Day 2 was going to happen but did we know it was going to happen with Jeff Goldblum? Director Roland Emmerich announced on Facebook that beloved actor Jeff Goldblum will return as fan-favorite David Levinson.

As for Will Smith’s Steven Hiller? Smith himself is not currently set to reprise the role, but Jessie Usher will reportedly take on the role of Hiller’s son.

In addition to Goldblum and Usher, Independence Day 2 will star The Hunger Games’s Liam Hemsworth and we’re crossing our fingers that he’s related to Bill Pullman’s President Whitmore. Pullman himself stated an interest in reprising his role two years ago, but there’s no word yet on whether or not he’s tied to this particular project.

Production looks to begin in May with a script penned by Carter Blanchard.

Set to take place 20 years after the events of Independence Day, this sequel will see new and old faces as aliens return. 20 years is a long time and humankind had ample time to utilize alien technology.

Initially slated to hit theaters on July 3, 2016, the release date is now June 24, 2016.

Are you excited to see Independence Day 2, complete with requisite Jeff Goldblum? What would you like to see happen in the film? And, as an added bonus, tell us what you’d call the film!
