Amber Heard in Talks to Play Mera in Justice League and Aquaman Films

With the upcoming Aquaman film starring Jason Momoa, it’s only natural to wonder who else from his world will make an appearance in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU, aka their cinematic universe).

Wonder no longer, because The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Amber Heard is in talks to join as Mera, the Queen of Atlantis and wife of Aquaman.

If all goes well, Heard will first make her appearance as Mera in Justice League and then co-lead in Aquaman. Momoa himself is first set to appear as the aquatic DC hero in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

In the comics, Mera hails from a place known as Dimension Aqua (later revealed to be Xebel) and originally abdicated the throne there to join Aquaman in Atlantis. However, it was revealed in Brightest Day that her real backstory was that she was sent to kill Aquaman, but ended up falling in love with him.

She’s a powerful character in her own right, with the ability to turn water into solid objects. She was also trained as an infiltrator and killer in Xebel.

Justice League, directed by Zack Snyder, is set to hit theaters on November 17, 2017.

Aquaman, directed by James Wan and currently undergoing two script treatments (one by David Leslie Johnson and the other by Kurt Johnstad), is scheduled to arrive on July 27, 2018.
