AMC Renews The Walking Dead for Sixth Season

The Walking Dead returns to small screens this Sunday but it’s not over yet because AMC has renewed the series for its sixth season.

With fans abuzz about what will happen in season 5, it’s not surprising that AMC would renew the extraordinarily popular zombie drama. The Walking Dead is the highest rated show in cable history and draws a massive audience from the 18-49 demographic.

“We could not be more excited for Oct. 12 as we share new episodes of The Walking Dead with fans around the globe,” said Charlie Collier, AMC President. “In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who bring this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.”

If you thought the story ended there, you’re in for a surprise. Not only is The Walking Dead renewed for its sixth season, but AMC is teaming up with comic author Robert Kirkman to develop a pilot for a companion series, currently projected for sometime in 2015.

The Walking Dead returns with season 5 on Sunday, October 12. The show is based on the comic by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, and stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Chad Coleman, Chandler Riggs, Mely Kinney, Danai Gurira and Sonequa Martin-Green.
