Why Is Avengers: Endgame Getting a Re-Release?

At a press junket for the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, revealed that Avengers: Endgame will be re-released on June 28 – a week before Far From Home hits theaters.

Feige confirmed with multiple sources that the re-release of the three-hour long film will not be an “extended cut” but rather will have new footage “after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises.” Many film pundits have been debating whether this move was to take down James Cameron’s Avatar, which currently holds the all-time global box office record of $2.788 billion. But to do that Endgame would have to earn close to $45 million. If any film can unseat Avatar, it would be Endgame, as it has a decade-long cinematic universe support it

So if the re-release isn’t about besting Avatar’s box office, then why is Marvel re-issuing the film? Well, it’s common to see re-releases of films – even Avatar had its own re-release in 2010. The reason for these re-issues is to grab the attention of moviegoers and bring them back into the theater for a film that they’ve already seen. It’s also to bring in a new audience. Especially, to bring in a younger audience that is already looking forward to seeing Spider-Man a week later.
