Early reactions are in for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice after the premiere last night, and they’re mostly positive.
It’s hard to actually gauge the movie from reactions like this – adrenaline and excitement-driven reactions from being at the premiere – so it might be some time before we get an actual understanding of what this film is. That being said, it comes out this week, so there’s not much longer to wait for the rest of us.
Now onto the reactions, which were largely very thrilled:
So lucky to have been at the #BVSPremiere last night and I still can’t believe how amazing it was. Not good. Not great. Amazing. #BvS

Affleck’s Bruce Wayne may be the best on screen to date. #BatmanvSuperman #BVSPremiere

Batman v Superman was great. Jesse Eisenberg’s performance in particular blew me away. #BatmanvSuperman

Also, many aspects are not what people are expecting. The trailers were cleverly deceptive. #BatmanvsSuperman

Perhaps most exciting from the reactions is the support of Wonder Woman, though:
Saw #Batman #BVSPremiere. One word: #WonderWoman. Also, best after party. #Affleck nails it. pic.twitter.com/Hck1SRtJfv

WW is underdeveloped & yet totally thrilling to watch; her grand arrival at the climactic battle got easily the biggest cheer of the night.

.@GalGadot‘s entrance as Wonder Woman in #BatmanvsSuperman was hands down the best part of the movie. #bvspremiere #whoruntheworld

I can confirm the loudest applause of the night at #BVSPremiere was #WonderWoman entrance. #WhoWillWin Wonder Women won. And she will again

Still, it’s unlikely BvS will be a universal hit (movies rarely are, after all):
#BatmanvsSuperman learns from some of MAN OF STEEL’s mistakes, but very much *not* from others. Both encouraging and frustrating.

Emma Gritt of The Sun wrote a spoiler-free review and explained: “The intensity of the insanely long film is achieved with special effects, plot twists, geeky references and the volume being turned up to eleven from start to finish. While die-hard DC Comic devotees might be punching the air as the Justice League are teasingly introduced, the average film fan may be left scratching their head. Overall Zac Snyder’s Batman v Superman blockbuster is an emotionally charged punch-up – but it’s newcomer Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman who really steals the show.”
Could this be DC’s vehicle to propel them forward, and largely be in more people’s favor? Quite possibly. Should Marvel be worried, especially with Civil War on the way? I don’t think so. What we could have now are two successful universes fans can enjoy, provided DC continues on this path of momentum.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in theaters this Friday.
