Chloë Moretz is about to go under the sea in a live-action retelling of The Little Mermaid!
However, this isn’t part of Disney’s current trend of turning their animated films into live-action retellings. In fact, this isn’t a Disney film at all!
This movie is in production at Working Title and Universal. What this means is that we might get a far darker version of Hans Christian Andersen’s story, which decidedly doesn’t have a happy ending, and certainly no happy songs or talking crabs.
With titles like Kick-Ass, Let Me In, and Carrie under her belt, Moretz can definitely take on darker tones in a film.
Moretz has been the front-runner for some time and it’s rumored her casting is part of what caused director Sofia Coppola to leave the project.
Screenwriter Richard Curtis is in talks to pen the script. He’s a very clever writer and popular with critics and audiences alike, having written films like Love Actually and Four Weddings and a Funeral in the past.
Do you think Chloe Moretz will make a good mermaid? Do you want to see a darker take on the story? Sound off in the comments!
