I’ve been on the Donald Glover for Spider-Man hype train since it first left the station when Sony announced they were doing a new iteration of the character. Glover’s likability, as well as his enthusiasm for the role, and my eagerness to see Miles Morales on screen, made it all an easy sell.
As we know, things didn’t turn out that way. Instead, we got Andrew Garfield’s performance as Peter Parker. While I can’t enthusiastically recommend his films, I do think he made an excellent Peter and wish he had been served with better material.
Still, now we’re on our third generation of cinematic Peter Parker in the form of Tom Holland (first seen in Captain America: Civil War) and still no sign of Glover. Until now.
Thanks to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, we know that Glover will be in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming!
There’s no word on who he’ll play in the film yet, but it’s probably pretty close to impossible that he’d play Miles. But we’re getting Donald Glover in a Spidey film and that’s what matters.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts and set to arrive on July 7, 2017. It stars Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey, Jr., Donald Glover, Zendaya, Tony Revolori, and Michael Keaton.
