X-Men and Wes Anderson Make a Surprisingly Perfect Pair in Fan Made Trailer

Fan videos are great – they show off the fan’s creativity and passion, they contribute to the fan community, and they give us something to totally nerd out over. That’s exactly what Patrick Willems has given us with his Uncanny X-Men trailer as directed by Wes Anderson, which you can watch below!

The X-Men are some of Marvel’s most interesting, complex, and long-lasting heroes. They first came about in the early 1960s and have rose to prominence since then. They are the outcasts of the superhero world, representing any group of people who has ever been oppressed or the underdog. It’s no wonder they came in to existence when they did.

This video features a lot of the big mutant names, and centers around Bobby Drake a.k.a. Iceman getting his letter to attend the Xavier School for Higher Learning. There he meets Scott Summers (Cyclops), Jean Grey (Marvel Girl), Warren Worthington III (Angel), and Hank McCoy (Beast). We also get appearances from Logan Howlett (Wolverine), Ororo Munroe (Storm), and Erik Lehnsherr (Magneto).

When you think about it, this group of characters actually marries perfectly into the directing style of Anderson. If you take away all the grittiness and big explosions, of course.

Anderson is definitely an auteur, or a filmmaker whose presence is so embedded in their film that they’re considered the author of the film. It’s easy to pick out his films by their cinematography, aesthetic, soundtrack/score, editing, etc. This fan video does an excellent job of portraying that.

The video is all warm colors, mostly yellows, with a unique and noticeable soundtrack. Willems uses the great humor that’s found in Anderson’s films, including punches to the face, which are always fun.

This fan video is the real deal. Bryan Singer, take note for X-Men: Apocalypse.
