FOX Greenlights Pilot for New X-Men TV Series

It’s been a couple of years now since Marvel decided to expand from their Cinematic Universe into a Television one – first there was Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC, followed by Agent Carter.

Then Netflix began filling in the more mature gaps with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and the forthcoming Luke Cage. Currently, Marvel is intent on adapting the full roster of The Defenders.

Meanwhile, many fans of the MCU have been lamenting the fact that The X-Men – one of Marvel’s most popular properties, just chock-full of beloved characters – is still owned by a different company, and therefore exists outside of the canon MCU.

But now it seems that 20th Century Fox and Marvel Television will be co-producing a project. The as-yet Untitled Fox Marvel Project will air on FOX, and the story will center around ordinary parents who realize their children are mutants. In time, the family flees persecution and encounters an underground mutant resistance, meeting familiar X-Men faces.

Matt Nix of Burn Notice fame will be writing the pilot script and also serve as an Executive Producer, amongst a slew of other well-known genre names, including: Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory (Daredevil, Jessica Jones), Bryan Singer and Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Days of Future Past), and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past).

According to Jeph Loeb, current Head of Marvel Television, “Marvel Television is thrilled to be co-producing with 20th Century Fox Television on our first project. It’s a great team of creative producers who will be making something entirely unique.”
