In 1996, most internet controversy surrounded the age-old question of Kirk vs. Picard – two captains for two different generations. This was an exceedingly ironic debate, overlooking the fact that the two captains – perfectly fit for their own real-world political climates as well as their stardate political conditions – would have gotten along famously as allies. Twenty years later, the internet is showing just how far it has come with the primary subject for discourse surrounding the Ghostbusters.
Why can’t we just get along? We will always have the classic Ghostbusters movies, but now a new generation of children are being given their own heroes and comedians to fall in love with. Reboots will be reboots, but if we can tell anything about the 2016 Ghostbusters movie based on this Ghostbusters 2016 Ecto-1 with Jillian Holtzmann Pop! Figure, it’s that the new movie will stay true to its roots.
The Ecto-1 was the perfect vehicle for fringe scientists chasing supernatural nuisances. This combination hearse/police car, parked in an old fire department building captured exactly the look and the feel that the Ghostbusters were going for.
In 2016, the Ecto-1 hasn’t changed a lot. This Pop! Vinyl figure doesn’t hint at a Michael Bay-esque reboot, the car being replaced with a snazzy update paid for by the Chrysler Corporation. What we see here is classic Ecto-1! The Jillian Holtzmann figure piloting the vehicle also captures the original feel of Ghostbusters.
We here at Entertainment Earth aren’t sure if the movie will be any good. But we are pretty sure that giving hilarious women a chance to shine in the heavy boots of the Ghostbusters opens up the chance for a new generation of heroes to capture our hearts. It also allows for great new collectibles, worthy of a place in every collection. Pre-order your new Ecto-1 with a Jillian Holtzmann Pop! Vinyl collectible today at Entertainment Earth!
