Lannisters, Starks, and Boltons Storm the Tower of London for World Premiere

This week Season 5 of Game of Thrones premiered at a particularly appropriate location – the Tower of London. It’s appropriate because the series was partly based on the War of the Roses. You can watch a video and see photos of the red carpet below.

It was a massive event, and not only because of the size of the series’ cast, most of whom were present. The show’s logo was beamed onto the Tower itself as stars walked the red carpet, talking about what the expect from the fifth season (without spoilers, of course!). Some notable absentees were Peter Dinklage (Tyrion), Maisie Williams (Arya), and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) but you’ll see them soon enough on TV.

Michael McElhatton, who plays Roose Bolton, said on the red carpet: “Like every season there are a lot of shocks but there will probably be even more, particularly for the book readers.”

It’s no secret that this show has started to drastically deviate from the books, which receives mixed reactions from fans. However, it wouldn’t be Game of Thrones without some genuine jaw-dropping, gasp-inducing moments, would it?

Early reviews are in for the first episode of Season 5 and, unsurprisingly, they’re good. The Independent writes:

“All the elements that have made Game of Thrones notorious, from copious nudity to moments of unexpected violence, were present but this was a notably confident series opener, one which mixed humour and pace to demonstrate how secure [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] now are in this world – and how happy they are to take risks … well-paced, intriguing opening episode.”

Game of Thrones is HBO’s most watched television series ever and Forbes says that “many fans will be tantalised and intrigued by this new season.”

The show returns April 12th.
