It is a big week for movie fans as Ready Player One hits theaters this weekend. Critics and early moviegoers have been mostly positive as early reviews are coming in and tickets are selling out for the weekend showings. But aside from that big blockbuster event, let’s dig into other entertainment news with a box office update and collectible headlines from the past week!
Marvel’s Continued Dominance
If you thought Pacific Rim Uprising might unseat Black Panther from the number one spot in the box office charts you’d be wrong. Domestically Black Panther has reached $637 million and $1.7 billion worldwide while Pacific Rim Uprising in the first week domestically reached $34 million and $157 million worldwide. Rounding out the rest of the top five domestically is I Can Only Imagine at number 3, Sherlock Gnomes at number 4, and A Wrinkle In Time coming in at number 5 for this week.
Captain Marvel Begins Production
The first female-led Marvel film has begun production and with that, news of some of the remaining cast has been announced along with it. Joining Brie Larson (Carol Danvers) and Samuel Jackson (Nick Fury) and returning to the MCU is Clark Gregg (Agent Phil Coulson), Djimon Hounsou (Korath the Pursuer), and Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser). We know that Captain Marvel will be set in the ’90s so it shouldn’t be too much for fans to accept these returning characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Last we saw Korath and Ronan, was in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film and in the movie portion of the MCU tree, Coulson was killed in the first Avengers film. Coulson has since found new life in the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.LD. currently in their fifth season. He hasn’t been in a Marvel film since he was “killed” by Loki, in what seems like a lifetime ago. Already announced for the cast were Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, and Gemma Chan. Captain Marvel will hit theaters on March 8th, 2019.

While the movie is just a dream, you can play it out now with these new MAFEX action figures!
