It has been a long week but Friday is finally here! This week has been filled with Black Panther promotion as the film nears release and early reviews have been incredibly positive. While we have a lot of trailers to look forward to from the big football game this Sunday, we were gifted with two early trailers for Ant-Man and the Wasp and Mission: Impossible Fallout.
The Calm before the Storm
Sunday will feature a ton of new trailers for big blockbuster films coming out (Solo: A Star Wars Film is rumored to hit during the big game). This week, however, we got our first look at Ant-Man and the Wasp, and our first real look at Hope in full costume fighting bad guys and just being awesome. We also got our first look at the next Mission: Impossible film with a teaser trailer (the full trailer coming on Sunday). Nothing much to glean from the teaser aside from the gang is all back and Cruise is still running. Stay tuned to the site for all the recaps of the latest trailers we’re sure to get over the weekend and into Monday!
This week we were also given a quick look at the new Halloween film in production now. The eleventh installment in the franchise will pick things up 40 years after the original film and will see Jamie Lee Curtis reprising her role as Laurie Strode. Jamie Lee took to Instagram to offer up a selfie on set with director David Gordon Green. Halloween returns to theaters later this year on October 19th.
Superman’s World Getting Bigger
With SyFy’s Superman-less Superman series Krypton premiering soon, the promotion has increased with TV spots and trailers. While the new series goes backward in time, generations before Superman crashes on Earth, another series has been announced that will explore another side of Superman’s legacy. Warner Bros Television and DC Entertainment announced that a live-action series titled Metropolis will debut on their upcoming Digital Network. The series will follow Lois Lane and Lex Luthor as they investigate the world of fringe science and expose the city’s dark and bizarre secrets. The series will debut in 2019 with a 13 episode first season set to begin production this year. Though it hasn’t been confirmed, it is likely that Superman won’t appear on the show much in the way Batman is not part of Gotham… again, that’s just speculation.
More Animated Heroes in the Half Shell
Nickelodeon released the first image of a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon set to debut later this year. Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be a 26 episode reimagining of the characters we’ve known and loved for almost 30 years now. Raphael will be a snapping turtle who uses twin tonfas as his weapons instead of his signature pair of sai. Leonardo will be a red-eared slider with an odachi sword, Donatello is a soft-shell turtle with his trusty tech-bo staff. Finally, Michelangelo is a box turtle with a kusari-fundo as a weapon instead of the nunchucks we’ve come to know him wielding. While their appearance and weapons have changed, their personalities will remain the same as they have been in every incarnation to this point. Joining them as always is their father/mentor Splinter and April O’Neil who has also undergone a bit of a make-over in the character design department.
