Geek Headlines: Disney Acquires Fox, Star Wars: The Last Jedi Hype, and More

TGIF everybody! It’s been a busy week – especially for the Walt Disney Company. In addition to The Last Jedi premiere, Disney also acquired 21st Century Fox for an unprecedented $52.4 billion. There’s a lot to cover, so here’s a quick recap of all news that made the headlines this week in a galaxy not so far, far away.

Spider-Man and Ready Player One Trailers Swing Into Action

Your favorite neighborhood superhero is back with a new animated movie. Set in a universe separate from the Avengers, this upcoming Sony Pictures flick features a brand-new web-slinging hero. Made by the same team who brought us the Lego Movie and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will hit theaters late next year.

The first trailer for the upcoming video game epic, Ready Player One, dropped last week with tons of hidden gems to boot. Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tye Sheridan (X-Men, The Tree of Life), this futuristic flick looks all sorts of awesome. Like any good game, there are dozens of Easter eggs just waiting to be uncovered in the trailer. See how many you can spot below.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Takes the World By Storm

Only a few days before the premiere, the Star Wars: The Last Jedi cast and crew came out to the LA premiere in force. In addition to paying tribute to legendary actress Carrie Fisher, who passed away earlier this year, the cast also received a warm greeting from actor John Boyega, who had to miss the event due to a sudden snowstorm in Georgia. Check the premiere’s highlights.

It’s easily the most anticipated movie of the year (maybe even decade). The Last Jedi is finally here, and moviegoers are already calling it a hit. Critics were worried about a film of this magnitude being handled by a fairly new director, but if the preliminary reports are any indication, Rain Johnson’s unique style is quickly putting those fears to rest. Check out this spoiler-free review.

Flying into a home near you just in time for the holidays, these Star Wars-themed Mighty Muggs feature six collectible figures. Standing nearly four inches tall, each figure comes with three removable faces. Simply push down on their head to change their face from happy to sad and more.
