According to George Lucas, We’ll Like Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Even If He Didn’t)

Well, it happened. Original Star Wars creator George Lucas saw The Force Awakens and deigned us with an opinion. Sort of.

He doesn’t totally insult the film, but it’s certainly not praise. Vulture has the quote from Lucas about what he thought:

“I think the fans are going to love it. It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for.”

Well, then. Tell us how you really feel, George.

Frankly, I’m glad he thinks I’ll like it. I want to love this film, and I’m already very excited for it. But what a way to give a backhanded compliment to director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm.

It’s not a huge surprise. We know about the problems Lucas had with the prequels and that he’s a director that comes to films from an artistic POV. Still, what a quote!

This is apparently going to be the Star Wars sequel we’re looking for, even if Lucas is disappointed he found it.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, and Max von Sydow is set to come out on December 18, 2015.

What do you think of Lucas’ comment? Are YOU excited?
