Guillermo del Toro Teams with Dreamworks to Bring Animated Series to Netflix

The hip place to be in Hollywood right now is Netflix. Just ask Dreamworks and Guillermo del Toro.

The animation company and Netflix recently signed a deal (which includes a reboot of Voltron), and the popular Mexican director is getting in on the action.

He’ll be bringing an animated series called Trollhunters to the streaming service and I am, to say the least, excited.

The press release described the series as unleashing “a new, fantastical world wrapped around two best friends who make a startling discovery beneath their hometown.”

There’s no word on how scary or surreal it might be – after all, those traits seems to be things del Toro thrives on.

Right off the bat, it reminds me of Cartoon Network’s Over the Garden Wall, which is one of the best animated projects in recent years. If it’s even remotely similar to that, it will be fantastic. Even if it’s not, though, I’m really looking forward to it. But I look forward to anything del Toro does.

Trollhunters, along with the Voltron reboot and other Dreamworks-Netflix ventures, are planned to be released over the year.

Are you excited to see more original animated content on Netflix, especially led by Guillermo del Toro and Dreamworks? Let us know in the comments!
