Warning: Spoilers for Captain America: Civil War.
Not only has ABC passed on Agent Carter, but now it looks like Steve Rogers has, too – and Hayley Atwell is not happy about it.
When I saw Captain America: Civil War, I was just as excited as everyone else to what this superhero smackdown had in store! I expected epic fights, high speed chases, and more than a little tension.
The kiss between Cap and Sharon Carter though? I never saw that coming. It’s immediately followed by a funny “bro” moment between Sam and Bucky, but I wasn’t laughing and it looks like I’m not alone.
To have a grieving Steve move on so quickly felt like an injustice to both characters. My own indignation aside, it seems Hayley Atwell, who has portrayed Peggy in several MCU films not to mention Agent Carter, isn’t thrilled with the decision either.
At Dallas Comic Con Fan Expo, Atwell said, “Well, first of all she’d be turning over in her grave (…) She’d break out of her coffin and she’d ground [Sharon]. She’d ground her. Then she’d kick Steve’s ass as well.”
Atwell is also quick to point out how fast her old paramour seems to have moved on, saying, ”And Peggy just died. That’s even more disrespectful, right? It’s like, ‘don’t touch that.”‘ You can’t tap that!”
Exactly my thoughts, Hayley! How is this the same Steve we saw in the last two Captain America films, not to mention his role as part of the Avengers team? Then again, Atwell seems to think that maybe this is a Steve she doesn’t want near any of the Carters, Peggy included.
Referring to the most recent issue of Captain America, Atwell adds, “And now with this whole ‘Hail Hydra” business, I don’t know if Steve’s good enough for her. So on all levels, it’s just a big fat no.”
Same, girl. Same.
What do you think about Steve/Sharon and Atwell’s thoughts?
