The Hobbit’s Final Trailer Marks the Beginning of the End

Mark November 6th in your calendars. Not only did we get the title for Star Wars: Episode VII today but we also got a new, full-length trailer for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies which you can watch below.

This final installment in The Hobbit trilogy brings, as the title indicates, 5 armies to their final confrontation over the now unguarded treasures of Erebor, which culminates in an epic, 45 minute battle sequence. Tensions are high throughout the trailer and Jackson certainly doesn’t hold back on revealing the massive scale of the film. Jackson gives us a big taste of what’s coming in sweeping wide shots, exciting action sequences, and CGI in abundance.

The video also reveals rich character material, especially for the three leaders: Thorin (Richard Armitage), Thranduil (Lee Pace), and Bard (Luke Evans). It hints at major, plot-changing events that we saw in The Lord of the Rings with Saruman (Christopher Lee) confronting Sauron and Bilbo (Martin Freeman) putting on the ring.

This is the best this trilogy has looked so far and, while it may never live up to The Return of the King, hopefully it can end our time in Middle Earth on a high note.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies hits theaters on December 17, 2014. It’s directed by Peter Jackson and stars Richard Armitage, Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Cate Blanchett, and Luke Evans.
