Hold Onto Your Butts: A Jurassic World Trilogy Is in The Works

Fans of the Jurassic Park franchise, rejoice! It appears that we’ll be getting at least two more dinosaur filled romps in the near future. A sequel to the 2015 film Jurassic World is currently in pre-production with the rumored working title of Jurassic World: Ancient Futures.

Colin Trevorrow won’t be returning to the director’s chair for the next installment. That honor has been passed onto Juan Antonio Bayona, who is best known for directing the critically acclaimed horror film The Orphanage.

That being said, Trevorrow still has some involvement with the franchise. He, along with Steven Spielberg, are contemplating ideas for a third film. In a recent interview with LRM, Bayona confirmed this:

“It’s very interesting. The whole Jurassic World is a trilogy that Colin Trevorrow has envisioned. We’re writing the second chapter, and it’s very interesting where he’s leading the story. I grew up watching Steven Spielberg movies and I love those movies and the legacy, so it’s a question of being truthful to the legacy and at the same time, bringing new stuff that people will appreciate. We are still six months ahead of shooting, and so far, so good. It’s very exciting right now.”

So far, the only two actors who have signed on to return are Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. And, apparently, there’s a significant story arc in their future. Hopefully, we’ll see some other familiar faces as well. My personal wish is for Dr. Henry Wu to embrace his true villain and set up his new science lab in a volcano lair. Well, a girl can dream.

What do you think of the idea of a Jurassic World trilogy? Are you a fan of where the franchise is headed? Let us know in the comments!
