Most of us have seen that meme with Dave Chappelle’s Tyrone Biggums asking, quite earnestly, “Ya’ll got anymore of them Daredevil episodes?” Sadly, no, there are no new episodes. Not yet. But what we do have is casting information for Season 2!
Joe Bernthal will be playing Frank Castle. Which means that Frank Castle will be in Season 2. Which means that the Punisher will be in Season 2. Which means that Season 2 will (hopefully) be bloodier than the Punisher game from 2005 (man, that game was amazing).
You may know Bernthal as Shane Walsh from The Walking Dead. I would like to go on record that I am not familiar with the AMC show, but from what I’ve seen of Bernthal’s work, I know he’s gonna kill it. I mean, did you see him in The Wolf of Wall Street? He was so intimidating as Leonardo Dicaprio’s muscly, corrupt buddy. Also, he totally looks the part. Put that man in Kevlar, and get him on set. He’s camera ready. And since he played a dude named Shane, I have to give him love.
Studios have struggled to bring the Punisher to life. Thomas Jane brought the thunder for the 2004 film, which I thought was very good. Silly at some parts, but all around a good comic book movie. Punisher: War Zone was… all right. It was a bit over the top but still a good action movie.
Daredevil had me worried. Which approach would Marvel take with the character? Would they make it like the Ben Affleck movie? Would they make it like War Zone? Would it be like Agents of SHIELD, their hit TV show?
It was nothing like those. They made it their own and Dardevil has turned out to be one of the greatest shows of 2015, if not the past 10 years. Netflix stepped up to the plate with this one.
Seeing that both Frank Castle and Matt Murdock a.k.a Daredevil (Charlie Cox) have a deep, burning passion for cleaning up the streets of Hell’s Kitchen, the addition of Castle in Season 2 is a great piece of news. I was on team “Punisher For Netflix!” because I thought Daredevil was supposed to be one season and I got really sad. Then Daredevil got renewed and I, along with many of you I’m sure, had a gut feeling that Castle would pop up. And our prayers were answered!
Don’t take my word for it! Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television says, “Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences.”
Berenthal is gonna bring it. Hard. And hopefully he leaves his silenced pistols at home.
Season 2 of Daredevil will return in 2016 only to Netflix.
Are you as excited as we are? Do you like who Marvel cast? Sound off in the comments!
