Josh Gad to Play Comedic Disney Sidekick Again

After revealing that Disney’s live-action musical Beauty and the Beast film found its Gaston and Beast, another actor is cast and, in a twist of events, he’s American. (All three previously cast actors are British.)

Josh Gad will reportedly play the comedic sidekick of Gaston (Luke Evans), LeFou. This character does not exist in the original fairy tale and was originally created for Disney’s 1991 animated classic.

This continues Disney’s perfect casting for this film. Gad is both comedic and musical. He starred in the original cast for Broadway’s Book of Mormon and voices Olaf in Frozen. Remember when you thought you would find Olaf insufferable but found him hilarious instead? Thank you, Josh Gad for your perfect line delivery.

LeFou has his own big musical number with the song Gaston which I can already picture Gad nailing. Plus, if the rumors are true that this movie will draw heavily from the musical, LeFou also has physical comedy that would be perfect for Gad.

So far this is shaping up to be another hit for Disney. Emma Thompson and Timothy Spall are still rumored for Mrs. Potts and Maurice, respectively.

Beauty and the Beast is set to come out in 2016, directed by Bill Condon, and starring (so far) Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, and Josh Gad.

What do you think of this casting? Is it perfect to you as it is to us? Share your thoughts in the comments!
