Upcoming SyFy Series Explores the History of World’s Greatest Superhero

Earlier we confirmed DC Comics’ 7th television series with Titans. They’re adding an 8th to the line-up with David S. Goyer’s Superman prequel series, Krypton.

Goyer, the screenwriter behind the recent Man of Steel film, is in development with SyFy to get this series off the ground. But don’t expect to see the Man of Steel in this new series. Krypton will take place years before the birth of Superman and will focus instead on his grandfather and the House of El. It is presumed Superman’s grandfather will be the series’ protagonist and that the series will show him dealing with the House of El being shamed and ostracized. He may even try to bring hope back to the planet of Krypton.

We got a taste of Goyer’s Krypton in the opening to Man of Steel but now he will be able to do more than that. Goyer will executive produce the show, alongside Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time, Criminal Minds) who will pen the script.

Fans have been skeptical of the news thus far, but there could be a lot of potential in foreshadowing and development with this new series. We know what becomes of Krypton around the time of Superman’s birth, but Goyer aims to show us how the planet got to that point.

So are you excited for this new series? Who would you like to see play Superman’s grandfather? Let us know in the comments!
