It’s been a long time coming, LOST fans, and the day is finally here.
“LOST Day,” as dubbed by fans, is 4/8/15 at 4:23:42pm because when you draw those numbers out – 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 – you get the Numbers. Fans will remember the Numbers popping up throughout the duration of the show.
They first appeared as the numbers on Hurley’s (Jorge Garcia) winning lottery ticket, although he became convinced that the ticket was cursed and just brought him bad luck.
Later we learned that these numbers were the same ones Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) typed into his computer in the hatch every 108 minutes.
They also represented Jacob’s candidates for who would be the next protector of the Island. He determined these numbers via degrees on a lighthouse mirror.
Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, producers and writers on LOST, have since used them as Easter eggs on their current show, Once Upon a Time.
While LOST polarized fans by the end, it’s hard to deny the impact it had on television and pop culture. It redefined the way we watch and consume television. So celebrate this monumental day however you see fit – binge watch the show, buy a lottery ticket, go to the beach, or watch one of the greatest LOST videos below, showing Flight 815’s crash in real time.
How are you going to celebrate? Let us know in the comments!
