What We Know about the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4

Marvel Studios made their triumphant return to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and they did not disappoint all the thirsty fans waiting for all the new announcements for Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4 and maybe even Phase 5.

Not only did Kevin Feige reveal the entire film slate for the next phase of the MCU, which starts on May 1, 2020, and ends on November 5, 2021, but he also officially announced the release schedule for the upcoming Disney+ shows. Below is the full schedule of release dates:

  • Black Widow: May 1, 2020
  • The Eternals: November 6, 2020
  • Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: February 12, 2021
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: May 7, 2021
  • Thor: Love and Thunder: Nov. 5, 2021

  • The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Fall 2020
  • WandaVision: Spring 2021

Let’s break it down property by property, shall we?


Black Widow: May 1, 2020

The first movie of Phase 4 will be the first female-led film in the MCU. Black Widow will star Scarlett Johansson. Other confirmed cast includes David Harbour (as Taskmaster), Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz.


The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Fall 2020

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be the first new Marvel series to stream on Disney+ this Fall. The series was already confirmed earlier this year but Anthony Mackie, Sabastian Stan, and Daniel Bruhl are all back in their respective roles. Baron Zemo will return as the main villain of the series.


The Eternals: November 6, 2020

The Eternals is about a race of immortal aliens sent to earth by the Celestials to protect mankind from the Deviants. The film’s cast includes Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Lia McHugh, Angelina Jolie, Don Lee, and Lauren Ridloff as the Eternals.


Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: February 12, 2021

Releasing in 2021, the first Asian-led superhero movie will star Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, the Master of Kung-Fu. Other confirmed cast includes Tony Leung and Awkwafina.


WandaVision: Spring 2021

WandaVision coming to the Disney+ streaming service. Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany will be reprising their roles as Scarlet Witch and Vision. Beyond that, nothing is confirmed yet.


Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: May 7, 2021

Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Doctor Strange. Scarlet Witch will also be in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the movie will directly tie into WandaVision.


Loki: Spring 2021

Tom Hiddleston is back as everyone’s favorite villain in the Spring 2021 Disney+ series. The show will take place after Avengers: Endgame.


What If…?: Summer 2021

What If…? will be an animated anthology series exploring different versions of iconic MCU scenes and moments. It will feature the voices of Marvel stars such as  Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Hayley Atwell, Chadwick Boseman, Karen Gillan, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Michael B. Jordan, Sebastian Stan, Michael Douglas, Neal McDonough, Dominic Cooper, Sean Gunn, Nicole Portman, Stanley Tucci, Taika Waititi, Toby Jones, Djimon Honsou, Michael Rooker, and Jeff Goldblum. Jeffrey Wright will be voicing The Watcher.


Hawkeye: Fall 2021

The last Phase 4 series will star Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton. The Hawkeye series will show Barton training Kate Bishop, though no other cast has been confirmed except Renner.


Thor: Love and Thunder: Nov. 5, 2021

One of the biggest reveals was that Natalie Portman will return as Jane Foster and the new Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder. Both Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson will return.


Phase 5 Teases

Kevin Feige didn’t stop at just Phase 4 reveals Being the hypeman he is, he had to leave everyone wanting more. Although he didn’t reveal dates, Feige did confirm that Black Panther 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and Captain Marvel 2 will all be happening at some future point. And not only did he mention Fantastic Four and mutants would join the MCU, but Mahershala Ali will be Blade!
