Marvel premiered four clips from the highly anticipated Daredevil series at New York Comic Con. The clips, taken from various points during the pilot, featured first looks at almost every main character – including Matt Murdock (Charlite Cox), Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio).
In the first clip, we get a good look at Karen Page’s apartment as she steps inside to find blood on the floor. A man appears and attacks her, and as she’s slammed to the ground, he draws a knife. Then we get our first glimpse of Daredevil, sporting a ninja-like costume, and a fight ensues. In ostentatious Marvel fashion, the two end up crashing through the window and falling to the ground below where they continue the brawl on the street.
Then we see a flashback to young Matt talking to his father, who’s arriving home after what appears to be a rough night out. He tells Matt he doesn’t want his son to end up like him. As his father’s blood drips from his face to the table, the scene returns to combat, where Karen has appeared to beg the hero to return to her the object the masked man had tried to steal. He declines, and we are left wondering.
In Clip 2, an injured Matt Murdock is seen, still in costume, on the couch of nurse Claire Temple. The dialogue is flirtatious and comedic, yet neither individual wants to divulge his or her secret to the other. The scene ends with Claire telling Matt to rest and that they’ll “figure out the other stuff later.”
Clip 3 was decidedly darker than the others. In it, art gallery owner Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer) and Wilson Fisk meet for the first time. Fisk looks interested in a particular piece, and Vanessa asks him what the painting makes him feel.
“It makes me feel alone,” he replies.
The last clip, however, is nothing but fun. It’s our first look at Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson. Karen serves Foggy and Matt a dish served up with delightful banter and overall lightness. “All you did was tell the truth,” Matt says. “Well, you listened,” Karen says, thanking them.
“I think the thing I loved about Matt Murdoch on the page…is we’re meeting a man who is a lawyer by day who believes in law and justice and in the night is taking the law into his own hands and deciding what justice should be,” Cox says.
The 13-episode season will be released on Netflix in 2015. Says Cox, “We get to spend more time on real story,” he says, adding that it’s nice to not have to build in cliffhangers at the end of every episode.
“It’s going to feel like a 13-hour movie,” Cox says.
