Comic Writing Duo Takes Their Stories to the Small Screen

It’s no secret that we’re fans of comic writing couple Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick around here. Which is why we’re so excited that they’re going to be taking their comics to television!

They are a powerhouse duo at Marvel, writing runs for Hawkeye, Avengers Assemble, and Captain Marvel.

While we doubt that their work at Marvel will make it to television (due to adaptation rights most likely), they also write independent comics which are equally as awesome and will be making it to the small screen.

sex criminals They have a two-year contract with Universal TV and one of their first projects is adapting Fraction’s comic Sex Criminals, which won both Eisner and Harvey Awards. It was also named best comic of the year in 2013 by Time magazine. The comic is about a female librarian and male actor who discover they can freeze time when they orgasm. Of course they put this power to good use – like robbing banks.

Other original comics by Fraction and DeConnick that we could see being adapted include Pretty Deadly (DeConnick), ODY-C (Fraction), Bitch Planet (DeConnick), and Satellite Sam (Fraction).

The duo’s production company, Milkfed Criminal Masterminds, could also be used as a launchpad for other comic creators’ IP or non-comic related original content for TV.

We couldn’t be more excited. Sex Criminals is a great comic and Fraction and DeConnick have proved themselves as some of the best, funniest, most original and approachable comic writers out there.

I’m interested to see what their level of involvement will be. I imagine a great deal, which is promising. I honestly can’t wait.

What do you think of this news? What series would you like to see adapted and are you excited for Sex Criminals?
