Up Close and Personal with the Star of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

If we’re being honest, the most exciting part about the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer was the Millennium Falcon. Fans have been clamoring about Han Solo’s ship, the fastest in the galaxy, ever since the trailer dropped.

Now we have a closer look at it.

Fortune magazine’s latest profile piece covers Disney CEO Bob Iger, as well as some new shots of the Millennium Falcon. The ship has received some updates for the film, the most notable being a new rectangular sensor array dish, replacing the circular one in the first three films.

It’s thanks to LucasFilm’s special effects division, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), that we have these stunning new shots.

After receiving the photographs of Iger from Fortune, ILM went to work on digitally inserting the Millennium Falcon into the shots. According to ILM, the ship was rendered a couple different ways before being combined in Photoshop for the final product.

Iger became CEO of Disney in 2005 and has brought a lot of success to the Mouse House. He’s spearheaded several different technology projects as well as, perhaps most famously, acquiring Marvel in 2009 and LucasFilm in 2012. Clearly if anyone deserves a spin on the Millennium Falcon, it’s this guy, who’s a star in his own right.

What do you think of the Millennium Falcon’s new look and updates? Still just a hunk of junk? Let us know in the comments!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, and Gwendoline Christie, is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2015.
