Disney successfully reinvigorated the Star Wars franchise with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and it seems like they’re just getting started.
It was announced at this year’s Star Wars Celebration that actor Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar! and Beautiful Creatures) would be portraying the scruffy looking nerf herder in a stand-alone young Han Solo film.
Well, apparently Lucasfilm firmly believes in their rising star, as the The New York Daily News reports that Ehrenreich has signed on for at least a three picture deal chronicling the adventures of the young scoundrel.
The first Han Solo film will be written by Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan. The film will also be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller of 21 Jump Street and The LEGO Movie fame. With a team this good, I can’t imagine the final product being anything less than fantastic.
A release date is set for May 25, 2018, with production slated to begin in January 2017. It will be quite some time before we know whether or not the film is a hit, but I’m going to choose to remain optimistic. Never tell me the odds.
