Nat Wolff to Star in Live-Action Death Note Film

The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns star Nat Wolff is set to star in an American live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga, Death Note.

The news comes from Variety, who reports that Wolff is “in final negotiations to star in Adam Wingard’s adaptation.”

The Warner Bros. film has been in the works for years, with several directors like Shane Black and Gus van Sant once attached, but with a director and star now linked to the film, it looks like it’s actually happening.

Wolff will play Light Yagami, an excellent but bored student who discovers the Death Note, a notebook dropped by a death god. Any name written in the notebook dies, so Light takes it upon himself to rid the world of evil. Legendary detective L is assigned to track down the person killing criminals, and the story descends into a cat and mouse game.

There’s no word on casting for L yet.

Production is set to begin next spring and the latest script was written by Jeremy Slater (The Lazarus Effect, The Fantastic Four).

Are you looking forward to a Death Note film? Do you think Nat Wolff is good casting for Light? Sound off in the comments!
