Could Nathan Fillion’s Cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Be a Pre-Cursor to a More Heroic Role?

For many of us with brown coats in the closet, Canadian-born Nathan Fillion will always be a sci-fi hero first and foremost, regardless of his more recent success as a crime-fighting writer on Castle.

And it looks like the former captain of the good ship Serenity may be strapping on some space boots once again – possibly, anyway.

Set photos posted today suggest that Fillion will be appearing in the sequel to Marvel’s 2014 gonzo sci-fi adventure Guardians of the Galaxy as actor Simon Williams. The photos show a series of posters for a Williams retrospective – including a Tony Stark biopic, implying that the scene occurs in the present day of the MCU.

What makes this so exciting is that Simon Williams is (SPOILER!) the alias of Wonder Man, a villain-turned-hero from the Avengers comics. And yes, at one point Wonder Man actually retired from crime-fighting to be an actor.

So we’re not confirming that Fillion will be kicking ass and taking names alongside the likes of Star-Lord, Iron Man, and Black Widow in the near future. But there is hope that this teaser may be a lead-in for later, more substantial appearances as Wonder Man himself.

There’s no doubt that Fillion would handle a superhero mantle with panache, given his past turns as Captain Hammer and the non-superpowered-but-no-less-heroic Captain Mal Reynolds. And what with the turbulent state of Castle, perhaps his schedule will be opening soon. Here’s hoping that this isn’t the last we’ll see of Fillion in the Marvel Universe.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be movin’, groovin’, and attitudin’ its way into theatres summer of 2017.

Do you hope to see Fillion in a more substantive role in the Marvel universe in the future? What do you think of this cameo? Sound off below!
