First Trailer for Powerless Is Cheesy and Full of DC Hero Shout-Outs

So far Marvel’s Damage Control hasn’t gotten off the ground, but NBC and DC’s Powerless has and now we have our first look at it!

It’s often unfair to judge something based only a two-minute trailer, as it doesn’t always the reflect the quality of something, but this trailer certainly could be better.

The danger with lackluster trailers is the way they can turn people off and cause the show to fumble if the marketing doesn’t succeed in other areas.

So far this trailer looks a little too cheesy and on the nose, as well as perhaps not having a huge budget. However, it has a pretty fantastic cast (especially with Alan Tudyk and Danny Pudi), so who knows what the future could bring?

Here’s a synopsis:

In the first comedy series set in the universe of DC Comics, Vanessa Hudgens (“Grease Live,” “High School Musical”) plays Emily, a spunky young insurance adjuster specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused by the crime-fighting superheroes. It’s when she stands up to one of these larger-than-life figures (after an epic battle messes with her commute) that she accidentally becomes a cult “hero” in her own right … even if it’s just to her group of lovably quirky co-workers. Now, while she navigates her normal, everyday life against an explosive backdrop, Emily might just discover that being a hero doesn’t always require superpowers.

Powerless will air on NBC this fall.
